Our Mission
Forging Future Bookkeepers Through Discipleship
At Miss Elsie's Bookkeeping LLC, God is at the helm. Without God, we would not exist today. I'm Lisa Culverwell, a Christian Entrepreneur and Full-Charge Bookkeeper since year 2000. Miss Elsie's Bookkeeping LLC was created with the intention of bringing bookkeeping solutions to small and mid-size businesses, specializing in Church and Nonprofit Bookkeeping.
After offering these services to clients for 2.5 years, I noticed a paradigm shift in the business that could only be from God and required a leap of faith. Year 2020 became the year of the pandemic - the majority of the world's population was forced to stay home. Those who lost their jobs and spent their time surfing the internet found themselves bombarded with ads about learning a new profession and starting a business, most of which were for bookkeeping. "Learn bookkeeping in just 24 hours" is what many of them offered, some offered to teach you in a couple of weeks.
They were guaranteeing that within one year after learning everything about Bookkeeping and getting certified, everyone, not just some, everyone would be highly sought-after and sign those high-ticket clients or get that dream job making six figures. And just like that, over 100,000 bookkeepers were born in the US and Philippines alone in just nine short months. Those who had some bookkeeping knowledge received certification and are thriving; however, those who had zero bookkeeping knowledge or experience were the ones who learned virtually nothing. Some only lost $60 while others lost upwards of $5,000 - a high price to pay for an empty promise.
To make matters worse, many of the companies and other bookkeepers know some of these online programs very well and refuse to hire, subcontract, or work with someone who becomes "certified" because of the reputation the online program has received. I discovered a huge need for bookkeeping mentors - mentors that simply did not exist at the time. I began answering questions in various Facebook groups and realized that something greater needed to be created, so I developed Miss Elsie's New Bookkeeper Mentorship Program, as well as a Facebook group where people can safely ask questions without criticism.
The Mentorship Program took off with flying colors, but I still felt like something was lacking. I saw the need for real-life experience and hands-on learning, so I decided to merge the mentorship and the bookkeeping functions into a Bookkeeping Discipleship. While the Mentorship Program still provides world-wide mentoring, Future Bookkeepers (aka Disciples) are forged in both education and practice, all while the Client's books are being accurately prepared each month! Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says, "Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken." We have a pay-it-forward mentality: Once a new bookkeeper has completed one year of the Discipleship Program and has developed their bookkeeping skills, they can pay it forward by teaching another bookkeeper.
When you invest in your Bookkeeping, you invest in a Future Bookkeeper. Forging Future Bookkeepers Through Discipleship.
